Stroke Program
The University Community Hospital Stroke program is a multidisciplinary team approach.  Patients who have experienced a stroke can receive physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech-language pathology.  All therapy is provided in the same clinic on the same day for a true team approach.  The therapists work with each patient and the caregiver(s) to individualize a plan of care for treatment.  The therapy team works closely with each other on team goals. The Stoke program addresses functional mobility skills, gait training, balance retraining, strengthening, activities of daily living, cognition, communication, swallowing and patient/caregiver education.

The program goals include: improve functional mobility skills, improve joint movement and muscle strength, improve activities of daily living, improve community re-entry skills, improve communication, cognition and swallowing skills, and patient education on stroke knowledge.  Specific patient education is provided on safe, functional mobility skills, exercise, the use of assistive/adaptive equipment, compensatory strategies, communication skills and community resources.
