Hand/Upper Extremity Therapy Program
The University Community Hospital Hand/Upper Extremity Therapy Program is designed to address the rehabilitation of the upper extremity. There is a certified hand Occupational Therapist available with numerous years of experience in hand/upper extremity rehabilitation. Occupational Therapy services specialize in upper extremity function to address injuries. The Occupational Therapist assesses joint motion, strength, pain, and functional mobility of the upper extremity. Occupational Therapy treatment involves the fabrication and use of specialized hand/upper extremity splints, range of motion, stretching, strengthening, activities of daily living skills, use of modalities and patient/caregiver education.
The program goals include: fabrication and use of specialized splints, pain relief, scar management, improve joint movement and muscle strength, activity training for functional use of upper extremity, and use of adaptive devices. Patient and caregiver education is provided on upper extremity injuries and function, splint usage, scar management, home exercise and pain relief techniques.
