Independence Square
Independence Square, an area adjacent to the Rehabilitation Unit, is a 3,500-square-foot facility located on the 6th floor of University Community Hospital that duplicates scenes right out of real life, including a grocery store, pharmacy, bank, restaurant, city streets, curbs and so on.
Patients also learn how to get in and out of a car without risking injury. Signs, stoplights, benches and other elements round out the realistic setting of Independence Square.
University Community Hospital is one of only two facilities in the state of Florida to offer this truly unique setting. Independence Square allows patient’s to mimic real-life, functional activities, typically unavailable in a rehabilitation setting. By performing these everyday activities, including working is a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom and bathroom, our patients’ transition to home after discharge is easier.
