Interventional
The term interventional means to intervene in an on going disease process. The Interventional Department is made up of an Interventional Radiologist, Interventional Technologist, and staff nurses.

What Is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a radiology specialty in which a radiologist uses disgnostic imaging such as x-rays and ultrasound to guide small tubes through vessels or the liver to treat disease that would otherwise require surgery.

In the last ten years the greatest procedural advancements have been made in Interventional Radiology. We now have the capability of doing embolization procedures That would otherwise require a surgical procedure with a longer hospital admission.

Procedures:
Diagnostic Angiograms, which consist of the following:

  • Abdominal Aorta grams
  • Renal Arteriograms
  • Lower extremity arteriograms
  • Upper extremity arteriograms
  • Cerebral arteriograms
  • Carotid arteriogram
Interventional procedures consist of the following
  • Embolization procedures i.e. Fibroid embolization, embolization for epistaxis (nose bleed), embolization for gastric or colon bleeding.
  • Vascular angioplasty or stent placement. These types of interventions are done to re-establish vascularity.
  • Percutaneous nephrostomy
  • Ureteral stent placement
  • Percutaneous Biliary Drainage and stent placement.
  • Percutaneous Gastric tube placement.
  • Dialysis Catheter (Temporary and Permanent)
  • Chest Tubes
