Foreign Language Assistance
UCH–C uses various resources to provide assistance to patients and visitors who have difficulty communicating due to language barriers. Available resources include:
In-house Interpretation Resources A list of staff who are fluent in foreign languages is kept for reference in each department.
AT&T Language Services The hospital assists with foreign language needs through the AT&T language service known as CALL (Communications and Language Line). CALL provides interpreters in the nine most commonly used languages. An interpreter will translate in a three-way conversation between a hospital representative and non-English speaking patient or visitor to complete medical, legal and personal requirements. Assistance is handled by the hospital operator.
